It was founded in the 1990s during the early days of mountain biking and has since grown to become Germany’s largest bicycle manufacturer. Cube is one of the world’s largest bike manufacturers by volume. That’s quite a feat considering that Cube Bikes aren’t yet available in North America, and that it is privately owned as well.

Cube – German-made, high-quality bicycles
Company Cube’s headquarters were established in Waldershof in 1993 and remain there to this day. More than 20,000 square metres are devoted to research, development, manufacturing, and distribution. Brand quality “made in Germany” embodies Cube’s reputation for excellence around the world. Among the distinguishing characteristics of German engineering are its emphasis on both functionality and aesthetics. In order to ensure the long-term quality and performance of the bikes, sponsored athletes and the Cube Action Team put them through their paces at the company’s headquarters in Waldershof, Germany.

The new factory, which had only been operational for five weeks prior to our visit, is a true behemoth. Because of Cube’s rapid expansion over the last two decades, the company had outgrown its existing assembly plant and needed to expand. As demand for Cube bikes continues to grow, the company decided to build a new factory just a few hundred metres away from the original one in order to keep up. Cube has stated that they do not wish to relocate again, and as a result, this new factory had to be designed accordingly.

The assembly line wasn’t yet up and running when we visited Waldershof because the facility was still relatively new. As a result of this, we were not allowed to take any photos during the tour, so you’ll have to rely on the Cube-provided images.

The majority of Cube’s bikes are assembled in Germany, unlike most other bicycle brands, which have their bikes assembled in Taiwan or China. The Waldershof factory receives all of the components necessary to assemble Cube’s fully-built bikes at the factory. This covers everything from the frames to the drivetrains to the tyres, grips, saddles, forks, and other components that go into making a bike. In the warehouse next to the assembly line, most of these components are imported from Asia. When the Cube factory receives the large shipment of parts, they assemble the bikes and ship them around the world.
