Founded in Basel, Switzerland, Open is a maker of high-performance mountain bicycle frames. The Open MIN.D. California, a limited-edition ultralight frame weighing just 775g, is Open’s most costly road bike.

Open co-founder Gerard Vroomen and composite design expert Don Guichard, both of whom worked on Cervélo’s famed Project California more than a decade ago, were involved in the design of the bike. The goal of Project California was to push the boundaries of bike design rather than provide a useful addition to Cervélo’s R-series that could be mass-produced. As a result, Cervélo’s R5Ca and RCa were the company’s top-of-the-line frames, both of which were extremely light and pricey.
