They’re all designed to a budget, but each one tries to outperform its rivals in some way. For example, the norco has better forks, Trek has better brakes, and a giant may have better derailleurs/shifters. It’s a marketing ploy; in practise, they’re likely to behave similarly.

Norco or Merida, which is better?
The Merida, despite its increased price, comes equipped with better wheels and a full Shimano XT groupset. While the SRAM Eagle drivetrain on the Norco has crisper and faster shifting, the XT 4-piston brakes have a smoother lever feel and a finer finish than the Code R brakes.
