Aside from the enduro and trail racing scene, KTM dirt bikes have become a major competitor on the motocross track. This was not the case in American motocross prior to the year 2000. KTM, on the other hand, is an Austrian company, not a Japanese one like its four main MX and SX competitors.

All KTM engines are built at the engine plant in Munderfing, Austria, a short distance from Mattighofen. Every day, close to 200 people work here to produce 300 to 400 engines in the facility. Single and twin cylinders, two-stroke and four-stroke.

A total of 13 engine types are produced at the plant, ranging in cubic capacity from 50 to 1190 cc, two- and four-stroke. Because of this, running productions on a daily basis is a significant logistical challenge.

Various cylinder heads and housings, as well as other components, can be automatically and precisely milled and drilled on one of the facility’s 16 massive CNC machining centres. Machining processes take a long time to complete, so there are three shifts at this facility.
