Scot Nicol, one of the first mountain bikers in Northern California, founded Ibis Bicycles. In 1981, Nicol was asked to build a frame for a friend in his garage. After selling the company to an investment group in 2000, Nicol saw the company go bankrupt within 20 months. At Interbike 2005, Ibis made a triumphant return to the industry.

California-based mountain bike manufacturer Ibis Bicycles is known for its high-quality bikes. The Mojo, Ripmo, and Ripley mountain bike frames are some of its best-known products. There are 33 countries where Ibis products can be found.

Is Ibis Cycles manufactured in the United States?

Ibis is currently based in Santa Cruz, California, with about 40 employees. All five of our owners are employed full-time by the business. Our CEO is Hans Heim, our President is Tom Morgan, our Engineering Director is Colin Hughes, our Graphic Designer is Roxy Lo, and our CFO, Scot, tries to stay out of the way.

The origins of Ibis remain a mystery.

Several small ibis colonies have been established in Australia’s Taronga Zoo in Sydney and the Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria since the early 1970s by conservationists. Ibis also moved to the coasts of eastern and southeast Australia, as well as the southwest, from interior wetlands.
